Montessori Babies: Birth-2 Developmental Guide
The guide below was created as a quick-reference resource for new parents to use alongside our Montessori Babies Course as you move through your baby’s first two years.
There is so much information about infant development and Montessori that it can totally feel overwhelming, especially when you’re also learning how to be a parent. This guide is here to help you quickly pull the pieces together.
Think of the course as the deeper learning, and this guide as something you can quickly come back to when you’re wondering, “What is my baby working on right now, and how can I support them?”
As you move through the course, use this guide to:
- Get a quick picture of what your baby may be working on developmentally
- Notice skills and interests that may be emerging
- Find Montessori materials and everyday experiences that support those skills
- Look ahead to get a sense of what may be coming next
- Return to the corresponding course lessons when you want to learn more about the why and how behind what you’re seeing
You don’t need to memorize this guide, follow it perfectly, or offer every material and experience listed. Babies develop in their own way and in their own beautiful time, and you may notice your baby working on skills from more than one stage at once.
Let the course teach you the Montessori approach, and let this guide help you apply it to your sweet baby in front of you.
Observe your baby, follow their lead, and come back to this resource whenever you need a little direction or reassurance along the way.
